New report says levelling-up agenda must tackle health and economic inequalities https://aboutmanchester.co.uk/new-report-says-levelling-up-agenda-must-tackle-health-and-economic-inequalities/
Thank you to everyone who joined us for today's APPG meeting on transport & travel recovery in GM, especially for the fantastic contributions from our panellists @MayorofGM @JimfromOldham @MAG_PressOffice
@OfficialTfGM @TransportFocus @MaryCreagh_
Jonathan Morgan - @ElectricityNW - states ENW are working to reinforce their network so the North West can cope with a surge in electric vehicles. We need to make sure there are adequate charging points across GM and the North West to support this movement #netzero
Lord Stunell states that it's hard to be positive about what public #transport will look like over the next 12 months - especially as we move into winter - but we have a real opportunity to make huge improvements, especially with #pedestrian travel 🚴🏻♂️🚶🏼♀️
60% of car journeys are under 2 miles - @MaryCreagh_ @livingstreets highlights the importance of encouraging active modes of #travel & the need for a cultural change in how we approach #transport
Useful discussion and I really welcome the ongoing commitment to a London-style, integrated transport network for Greater Manchester. There are many opportunities for Government to devolve transport powers from moving traffic powers to devolving commuter rail network and stations https://twitter.com/GMAPPG/status/1306900355926679553
A London-style, single #transport system with a daily cap of what people can spend is what is needed in Greater Manchester says @MayorofGM - crucial to reducing the number of cars on our roads in GM & hitting our 2038 #netzero target
The importance of people and goods being able to move around the North easily should not be underestimated says @DanielCochlin @NP_Partnership - the improvements to Northern rail, bus and tram networks are vital to the #levellingup agenda AND to the economy
Louise Collins @TransportFocus & Lucja Majewski @TPExpressTrains highlight that the number one priority for customers & the #transport industry is cleanliness & social distancing - stating their services have never been cleaner
Karen Smart, MD of Manchester Airport highlights the key challenges ahead for @MAG_PressOffice and the aviation industry. How do we get #passengers to feel confident in travelling again? Karen suggests testing at airports and using a regional approach to quarantine going forward
